I've since went back and remastered this video to correct the aspect ratio as well as clean up the overlay and fix audio issues present with the Gamecube footage here
A quick graphics comparison of Metroid Prime on Gamecube VS Metroid Prime Remastered on Switch. Nintendo decided to suddenly drop this gem on us yesterday right after the Direct. I have to say, I am genuinely impressed with this remaster. We've seen great remasters in the past such as Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. However the team behind Metroid Prime Remastered has went above and beyond any expectations anyone could have had. With many aspects of this version looking like a brand new game or remake entirely as opposed to a remaster.

I Love how the game wasn't so OVERHAULED that the game would turn out to be unrecognizable anymore. MANY games do that. They forget that we just want an UPDATE on a current system. Not a current gen graphics and engine version of that game.
Great comparison. Oddly enough, this is one Nintendo classic title I didn't try on Switch, yet. But my collection grows every month.

This game truly blurs the line between remake and remaster. It’s crazy that the remade every single model, be it plant, creature or wall and every single texture, gave it a new lighting engine and whatnot.

GTA Trilogy remaster is a good example (all though there are other things wrong with that release) in GTA SA, they cranked up the draw distance and removed the distant fog, but that just meant you could see the whole map all at once, revealing how small it is by today's standards. There are just a lot of things that the OG does better, starting with Samus's suit textures. In the OG, the suit looks metallic, whereas in the remake, it looks like a cheap plastic suit. This is Metroid Prime, not Sarges's Heroes: Metroid Edition.
The lighting effects when Samus fires a shot; the charge shot itself; the enemies in Phendrana that drop electricity and light up the room as they do; the small shockwave of light when a shot hits something... they all look better on the Gamecube.

Of all tweaks and changes, this might be one of the smallest that bugged me, but I can't be the only one out there that feels this way - does anyone else feel the Power Beam's pulsing light effect along the arm cannon to be way too flashy in the remaster?
In the original it was very subtle, more of a little accent detail and finishing touch to the arm cannon to let you both visually see the beam type selected, and give you the sense that this was a piece of technology that was primed and ready to use. In the remaster, it's like a bloody rave is going on inside the thing. The effect is cranked up to the point where it's almost distracting.
